[This article has been obsoleted by our issuing of 0patch Agent version 21.05.15.10500, which controls the size of log files. We've archived it to preserve links pointing to it.]
0patch Agent log files are stored in %programdata%\0patch\Logs folder (typically C:\ProgramData\0patch\Logs or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\0patch\Logs on older Windows).
The current version of 0patch Agent (20.06.18.10800) is sometimes generating very large log files, reaching multiple Gigabytes depending on circumstances and the number of processes being launched on the computer.
Since log files have assigned special permissions to allow all processes to write to them, it is not recommended to just delete them when they grow too much. Instead, we have prepared a script for purging log files that can be downloaded here: https://0patch.com/files/0patch_purgelogs.zip
The script overwrites all logs with an empty log file included in the ZIP archive, preserving permissions on all files and keeping the Unicode byte order mark (BOM).
Use this script as follows:
- copy empty.log and purgelogs.bat to %programdata%\0patch\Logs
- launch cmd.exe as administrator
- in cmd.exe, execute "cd %programdata%\0patch\Logs"
- run purgelogs.bat
If you have deleted log files at any point and would like to restore their permissions, please execute the Repair operation on the 0patch application via Control Panel -> Programs and Features. This operation will not unregister 0patch Agent or affect any downloaded patches or agent's configuration.
